Born in Northampton in 1971, Beth Derbyshire lives and works in Southampton in Great Britain. Beth Derbyshire is an artist who lives resolutely in the present. It shows in her drawings, her photography and her videos of political and social situations such as citizenship or the relationship between the individual and the community. She participated in the Biennale of Sharjah (United Arab Emirates) in 2003, then at the Biennale de Montréal in 2007, for which she completed a project entitled “Ensemble – Together” a reflection on the Canadian nation through both official languages, namely French and English. She has printed the word “together” on the subway transfer tickets and proposed the design for a coin : “De loin et de partout, O Canada / From Far and Wide, O Canada” (of this last project, only the design of the coin was be completed.) Since then she has made Cape Farewell one of her major projects, "Anthem", a trilogy of films shot during an Arctic expedition and set to music by composer Ulrike Haage.
