We are thrilled to announce the nomination of Sophie Dynbort, Thomas Marcantonio and Gilles Mihalcean to the Board of Directors of the CIAC – Centre international d’art contemporain de Montréal.
Sophie Dynbort studied art history and marketing at Concordia University of Montréal and Université de Paris-Sorbonne. For over four years, she has been responsible for marketing and communications at Duncan Ross Associates, a boutique investment management firm that services high-net worth individuals and institutions. While primarily focused on strategy and branding, she is working on a corporate art program that comprises the development of a contemporary art collection, an exhibition program, and various collaborations with galleries and cultural institutions. The objective is to create more awareness of contemporary arts among the business community.

Thomas Marcantonio is the General Director of Corporation Canada I.C.I. Capital (MTL) Inc. He is a well known force in the Québec real estate industry and has an extensive background in the investment, development, administration and brokerage aspects of multi-residential and commercial real estate. Thomas Marcantonio began his career in 1979 as a junior appraiser in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. In 1981, he joined Morguard Trust Company where he served in various capacities from internal auditor to branch Assistant Manager. In 1990, Thomas Marcantonio joined Midland Mortgage Corporation as Regional Vice-President where he remained for two years until he joined the Edgecombe Group as Managing Partner. In 1998, Thomas joined Canada I.C.I. as a principal where he developed and managed the Montréal office.

Gilles Mihalcean is the winner of the Prix Paul-Émile Borduas 2011. Over the past 40 years, he has produced an œuvre both unique and original that has been recognized by art critics, museum conservators and his peers alike. Gilles Mihalcean has produced work that is a testament to the imagination and identity of Québec. His sculptures poetically convey at once the individual and the society in which he lives. Gilles Mihalcean has exhibited his work in various galleries around Montréal, at CIRCA, at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal and at the Centre international d’art contemporain de Montréal. Beyond his active 40-year sculpture career, Mihalcean took up the cause of defending the role of artists in society. He has sat on several boards of directors of artists centres, has given conferences and created several public artworks.
Cédric Bisson (Investment partner, Teralys Capital), Nick Tedeschi (Vice-President SAJO inc.) and Claude Gosselin (Founder & Artistic Director of the CIAC), members of the Board of Directors of the CIAC, welcome these new members and thank them for their enthusiasm in developing the CIAC and the Biennale of Montréal.
