Claude Gosselin, artistic director for the CIAC – Centre international d’art contemporain de Montréal – has been approached by the organizers of WEYA – World Event Young Artists – to propose young artists from Quebec and Canada for this event. We are looking for young artists from 18 to 30 years old who wish to participate to WEYA 2012, which will be held from 7th to 16th September 2012 in Nottingham, UK.
World Event Young Artists 2012 is the first event of its kind. In September 2012 it will showcase some of the best creative talent from across the globe, bringing 1,000 artists aged 18 to 30 together in one city – Nottingham – for a festival programme that will stretch across artforms, from live music to dance performances, theatrical installations to spoken word, film to visual arts exhibitions and gastronomic events.
It will be a finale to the 2012 Cultural Olympiad and builds on the success of the Biennale of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean (BJCEM).
As well as giving artists a high‐profile international platform to show their work, WEYA will provide them with opportunities to see work from all over the world, collaborate with other like‐minded individuals, network and take part in talks and debates. The World Event will be a chance for international exchange on a global scale; it is as much about intercultural dialogue across political borders as it is about the practice of young artists.

CONTEXT.
As mentionned above, WEYA is first and foremost a short event (10 days) and a gathering place for young artists (Nottingham, its public spaces and universities). There will be many people (about 1000 creators); the programmation will be busy. All the participants will be seeking the attention of other artists, of the public and of the press. In this context, we propose a forum that will showcase works of visual arts, design and architecture, videos and films, performances (theatre, music, dance, performance).
This is no place to organise a major exhibition. The space and lenght of the event play against it. All should remain light but efficient. Portfolio exchange, power-point presentation, mini-shows…
Please read the terms of participation. For our part, we will seek public or private funding to help the artists or groups who will be selected.
