WORD FROM DIRECTOR ![]()
In view of the growing popularity of the Internet and the ensuing accumulation of great quantities of information, we perceived a need to discern and emphasize the distinct presence of contemporary art on the Net. Thus, we invested our energies in producing a bilingual magazine which draws on the intrinsic flexibility and accessibility of the Internet. Thus, we would like to create a dynamic tool which actively communicates to our reader current information on contemporary art in Canada and elsewhere.
A rigorous selection and a concentration of material on major issues, as well as on ongoing and upcoming exhibitions and events, are the two main aspects of our approach. However, the magazine will not limit its perimeter to providing information. Every month, a series of ten artworks created for the Web will be presented, not only with the aim to enrich the content of the magazine but also to underline its purposes and its medium. This inaugural issue outlines the directions toward which the magazine will evolve. We envision the addition of new columns which will constitute a platform for discussions and debates on contemporary art.
The CIAC's Electronic Art Magazine will include some monthly columns and others will be continuously updated. We welcome the opportunity to invite you to participate in our magazine with your questions and comments.
We thank the Canadian Heritage Ministry and its programme Young Canada Works, administered by the Canadian Museum Association which allowed us to start this magazine.
