WORD FROM THE DIRECTOR ![]()
Stepping into the third issue enables us to better evaluate the image of The CIAC’s Electronic Art Magazine. In the context of CIAC, the magazine plays the key role of exploring the Internet as an evolving new medium. Starting with the next issue we intend to incorporate an archive into the magazine, which will contain all the selected projects from previous issues. This will contribute to an in-depth portrayal of the medium.
The articles from the column "The News of the Month" will also be archived. In this way, the links and references to international biennials, institutions, and articles circulating on the Internet and presenting different critical points of view which are included in the articles will be available for consultation. In this column we concentrated on finding a style of writing which is simple, informative and suitable for the Internet. One of the characteristics of the approach sought is that the articles abound on links to Web sites and references which establish a foundation for a critical discourse. This month, Sylvie Parent is featuring the opening of the new Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. Her task was to discern varied and interesting material from among many documents found on the Internet and present them to our readers.
The content of the magazine has been enriched with one new column: Spotlight on a Web Site. The purpose of this column is to offer an excursion into a site in contemporary art. As our first Web site Rossitza Daskalova chose the Banff Centre for the Arts. New information has been added to La Biennale de Montréal 1998 in the section CIAC’s Projects. Note that we will often add new data to this page. On the occasion of the exhibitions Yoshio Shirakawa and The Avant-Garde in Japan 1920-1970 we researched Japanese Web sites and broadened the Japanese section of the calendar.
Our next issue will be released in February 1998 but the calendar will be up-dated regularly. We hope that you will enjoy our magazine and we are looking forward to your comments.
