THE BANFF CENTRE FOR THE ARTS ![]() To begin with, we should make a distinction between the Web site of The Banff Centre and that of The Banff Centre for the Arts; the former has an entry to the latter. What attracts the attention of the visitor and makes the Web site of the Banff Centre for the Arts an exemplary site in contemporary art is its capacity to fulfill the needs of both functionality and aesthetics. Despite the large size of the site, the navigation in this territory is smooth, facilitated by its clear-cut structure. Compact and comprehensive, the site hosts pages on the programs and services at the Centre. All the necessary information is available and readily accessible; it includes on-line application forms and registration service. You may find descriptions of the facilities, such as the Leighton Studios; you will also see photos of them. The calendar of events, workshops and conferences is always up-to-date. If questions arise, the visitor has direct access to the staff members in the section Staff, where one finds the name and the e-mail address of the person to contact. One of the useful components of the site is the page Search/Index, which leads to internal and external links, according to the subject you are looking for. In addition, the site offers links to the Banff’s Sponsors. Serving the needs of an art centre, the site has a broad space for art. It includes in its scope links to an Amerindian site in the section Aboriginal Arts (in collaboration with the Aboriginal Film and Video Alliance), The Walter Phillips Gallery, and The Banff Multimedia Institute. Web projects created at the Centre are presented in the sections Alumni, Cyclic (Web works by Amerindian artists), Deep Web and The Walter Phillips Gallery. The Web site of The Banff Centre for the Arts is developed in relation to the image of the Centre and its activities. The purpose of the site corresponds directly to the mandate of the Centre. In these respects, the site as the Centre itself is indeed "a place for artists". Rossitza Daskalova
